Kasmordo's Legacy

The Fire Within - Part 3
Conclusion of Adventure #1

Player Characters: Delben (Jerry), Ash (Liam)

Having escaped from the town jail and restored Talmon’s silver sword,‭ ‬the two heroes and their githyanki ally debated their course of action.‭ ‬Talmon was eager to find a way to destroy the samandarun wraith possessing Zara,‭ ‬but Delben and Ash were leaning towards moving on until he mentioned the treasure she had taken from his ship.‭

They decided that they would swap clothes with their captives, hood them, and lead them back into town. Claiming that he had no magical abilities that would help him get past the guards, Talmon wanted to remain hidden while the others lured Zara to him, but that seemed impractical. The plan went fairly well, with the heroes able to bluff their way past a guard who noticed that they weren’t locals, despite the official dress.

Reporting that they had re-captured the fugitives and found the sword that Zara was looking for, they were escorted back up the hill to the abandoned temple construction site. The foundations of the incomplete tower concealed a much older spiral staircase leading underground. A low, meandering passage there led them through an arch into an ancient throne room, where Zara sat, her face obscured by a deep hood, seemingly defended only by crumbling statues of oddly-proportioned figures. The guard who led them there announced them and scuttled away.

Zara ordered that the sword be lain at her feet, at which point they attacked. Talmon warned them (a bit late) not to look into her eyes as she pulled back her hood to reveal that they seemed to hollow sockets filled with smoldering flame. Delban was unable to look away in time and stared right into the depths, while Ash only caught a glance. Both felt as if they were burning from inside, but Delban was scorched within inches of his life while Ash (ironically enough) was only singed.

Two shadows stepped in to defend Zara. Delban healed himself and Ash got several blows in while Talmon tried to score a solid hit with his silver sword. Finally, Talmon landed a blow, his sword passing through her as if it was made of smoke. The effect was real, however, as her body immediately crumbled to the ground and an ephemeral shape made of glowing orange dust rose to lunge at Talmon, who shouted “burn it!”

Delban and Ash dissected a lantern while Talmon fought off the monsters, finally splattering the glowing wraith with oil and then lighting it. The creature puffed away in a flash and its shadows went with it, leaving Zara’s corpse, nothing but a hollowed-out sack of skin and charred bones, behind.

Talmon said, “you have my gratitude, but I am finished here,” and, making a gesture with his sword, faded into the ether. He did, however, leave behind the treasure the wraith had taken from his ship.

The Other 48 Days
The Fire Within - Part 2

Player Characters: Delben (Jerry), Ash (Liam)

Meanwhile, across the island, the tail section survivors are having a somewhat rougher time of it…
(The title and this line are a Lost reference.)

Delben and Ash did go to Dymon ahead of time‭ (‬as mentioned‭ ‬previously) ‬and found the cave,‭ ‬but discovered nothing of interest beyond some primitive lightning-bolt shaped carvings.‭ ‬Finding the village much as the others had,‭ ‬they decided to explore the area while they waited instead of spending a lot of time in town.‭ ‬In the valley to the west,‭ ‬they found pastureland and several clear,‭ ‬strong springs,‭ ‬a marshy cove branching away on the north side,‭ ‬and a crumbling amphitheater.‭ ‬Turning back from the deeper woods farther into the valley,‭ ‬they explored the higher ground to the north.‭

Past a graveyard and an unfinished (abandoned) temple on the hill, they found a rocky crater with a pile of twisted, broken material. Much of it was charred, smoldering wood, but there was also a large amount of hard, greenish material with a smooth, glassy texture. The other stuff they found suggested that it was all from some kind of ship, although the fixtures were of an extremely ornate style that they had never seen.

Before they could explore any further, a squad of armed men led by a knight (or a very well-heeled mercenary) accosted them and demanded that they surrender for poaching treasure in Lord Mayor Elihu’s woods. Although tempted to fight their way out, the number of opponents and the ominous shadowy forms flitting around convinced them to surrender. Their stuff was taken and they were both dragged off to a cell with bags over their heads.

TalmonThey woke up in a set of adjoining cells to the sound of a scuffle somewhere beyond the closed door to the block. After a few minutes, the commotion died down, giving Delben and Ash a chance to meet their cellmate, Talmon, a badly beaten githyanki warrior.

Talmon informed them that a “stardust wraith from outside the sphere” which he also referred to as a samandarun, had taken control of the town after first wreaking havoc on his ether-ship and crashing it nearby. It did this by taking over host bodies because it could not survive long in our reality without one. Taking the identity of a local named Zara, this creature had used spirits from beyond to manipulate and terrorize the natives while torturing Talmon for the location of his silver sword and his help in rebuilding the ether ship, neither of which he had so far provided.

Delben came up with a plan of escape in which he and Talmon pretended to be sick while Ash called for help. In response, the constable came in, grumbled, and left without opening or going near the cells, saying he was going to fetch the interrogator. Before he could return, however, a foppishly dressed young man entered. Both Dalben and Ash made a grab for him, but only caused him to stumble backwards into Talmon, who choked him unconscious, took his keys, and released the others.

Carrion CrawlerAfter some scuttling about, (and a few whispers from the same voice Seren had heard, this time suggesting near-suicidal alternative escape plans) they figured out where they were and escaped to the woods north of town. There, they subdued a couple of the guards that were pursuing them (mercifully keeping them alive but somewhat less mercifully beating them unconscious) set up camp, and fought off some scavenging carrion crawlers in the middle of the night. The next morning, they made their way to the marshy hollow where Talmon had hidden his silver sword.

Although made somewhat reluctant by the feral glee in the githyanki’s eyes upon seeing his weapon, Delben handed the silver sword over to Talmon and they began planning their next move.

The Fire Within: Part 1

Player Characters: Seren (Christy), Berti (Todd)

Seren and Berdank (Berti), having heard of a buried treasure opportunity north, made their way up the Roaring River from the seaport of Xiphos. The plan was to meet their contact, a druid called Delben Kane, in the village of Dymon. While admiring the spectacular limestone bluffs towering over the narrow valley that led to their destination, they found an emaciated man named Platook raving about a whole village gone mad looking for something, a dead mayor, a fallen star, and a mysterious prisoner that nobody had seen.

ShadowDeciding that they couldn’t just leave the helpless Platook alone to get eaten by wolves, our heroes carried him with them to Dymon and began looking for a place to deposit him. On the way, they spoke to a young lady who informed them that everything was fine while looking fearfully into the shadows, where Seren thought she saw a lurking humanoid shape that was darker than its surroundings. They found Platook’s home, where his wife took charge of him and informed them that he had only recently left town and was not starved, then changed her story and said that he probably hadn’t been eating enough.

Session1Having heard several things about the prisoner, they decided to have Seren try to sneak into the constable’s office (above the White Mountain Tavern) and take a look while Berti watched the entrance. On the way, they checked out the tavern and found it mostly empty. They hung around long enough to hear two men coming down the stairs and arguing on their way out. Peeking, they saw a young man in fine clothes with a heavyset older man.

On her way up, Seren was addressed by a disembodied voice which tried to convince her that there was nothing in this town of interest and she should leave. Unaffected, she continued on her way to the empty front office, where the owner of the voice tried to sting her, revealing itself as a small reptilian creature with bat wings and a scorpion’s tail. After a brief scuffle which Berti eventually joined, the creature flew out the window and disappeared again.

As they were about to proceed through another door which probably led to the holding cells, Christy’s computer crashed again.

Welcome to your Adventure Log!
A blog for your campaign

Every campaign gets an Adventure Log, a blog for your adventures!

While the wiki is great for organizing your campaign world, it’s not the best way to chronicle your adventures. For that purpose, you need a blog!

The Adventure Log will allow you to chronologically order the happenings of your campaign. It serves as the record of what has passed. After each gaming session, come to the Adventure Log and write up what happened. In time, it will grow into a great story!

Best of all, each Adventure Log post is also a wiki page! You can link back and forth with your wiki, characters, and so forth as you wish.

One final tip: Before you jump in and try to write up the entire history for your campaign, take a deep breath. Rather than spending days writing and getting exhausted, I would suggest writing a quick “Story So Far” with only a summary. Then, get back to gaming! Grow your Adventure Log over time, rather than all at once.
